The Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione II ‘Giallo Ginestra’ is a striking tribute to one of the most successful rally cars in history. The Delta series, especially the first generation, is etched in the annals of motorsport for its domination in the World Rally Championship (WRC) during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The ‘Giallo Ginestra’ stands out not only for its brilliant yellow hue but also for its formidable engineering and rally heritage.

The Lancia Delta was introduced in 1979 as a small family car, evolving through three generations until 2014. The first generation, however, is the most celebrated, especially among rally enthusiasts. This generation saw the Delta HF 4WD and HF Integrale models becoming the backbone of Lancia’s rally success, culminating in six consecutive WRC manufacturers’ titles from 1987 to 1992. The homologation requirements of Group A rallying meant that Lancia had to produce road-going versions of their rally cars, leading to the creation of the Integrale variants. In total, 44,296 Integrales were produced, making it a significant chapter in automotive history.

Presented in June 1993, the Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione II was the pinnacle of Lancia’s rally-bred engineering. This version featured an updated two-litre 16-valve turbo engine, producing 215 PS (212 hp) and 314 Nm of torque. The advanced Marelli engine control system, new Garrett turbocharger, and a host of other technical enhancements ensured that the Evoluzione II was not just a powerful machine but also a sophisticated one. These updates made the car more efficient, responsive, and robust, reflecting the technological prowess of its era.

The Evoluzione II also received cosmetic updates that included 16-inch light alloy rims, a body-coloured roof mould, aluminium fuel cap, and air-intake grilles on the front mudguards. The interior boasted a leather-covered MOMO steering wheel, standard high-back Recaro sport seats, and an elegant beige Alcantara upholstery with diagonal stitching. These features combined to offer a blend of aggressive performance and refined luxury.

Among the various limited editions of the Delta HF Integrale, the ‘Giallo Ginestra’ is particularly sought after. Introduced in October 1993, this version is named after its distinctive broom yellow paint, a vibrant and eye-catching colour that perfectly complements the car’s aggressive stance. Only 220 units of this edition were produced, with 150 allocated to Italy, 50 to Germany, and 20 to France.

The interior of the ‘Giallo Ginestra’ is equally special, featuring black Alcantara upholstery with contrasting yellow stitching. The high-back Recaro seats provide exceptional support, emphasising the car’s sporty character. This attention to detail and exclusivity makes the ‘Giallo Ginestra’ a collector’s dream.

The car’s precise handling, turbocharged power delivery, and all-wheel-drive traction make it a joy on twisty roads and a formidable competitor on the track. The engineering excellence behind its design ensures that it remains a benchmark for performance hatchbacks.

The ‘Giallo Ginestra’ edition, with its limited production and unique aesthetic, adds an extra layer of desirability. It’s a piece of automotive history, a reminder of an era when Lancia ruled the rally stages and set new standards for road cars.
