1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S 3.6 'Package'
In the realm of Porsche’s illustrious history, the 911 Turbo S 3.6 “Package” stands as a testament to the brand’s unwavering commitment to performance, innovation, and exclusivity. This exceptional variant of the 964-generation 911 Turbo was meticulously crafted by Porsche Exclusive’s Sonderwunsch, or “Special Request,” department and embodied the pinnacle of driving exhilaration.
With just 39 examples produced, the Turbo S 3.6 “Package” was a rarefied breed of supercar, reserved for the most discerning enthusiasts. Its allure stemmed from a potent X88 “Works Increased Horsepower” engine, inspired by the power plants developed by Andial for Porsche’s legendary Brumos Racing IMSA competition cars.

The heart of this exceptional 911 was a heavily modified M64/50S X88 engine, featuring a larger KKK turbocharger with increased boost, an efficient intercooler, modified cylinder heads with larger ports, increased-capacity fuel injectors, a four-pipe exhaust system, and more radical camshafts with advanced engine timing. This relentless powertrain delivered an astonishing 385 horsepower, a significant 30 horsepower boost over the standard 3.6 Turbo. Torque was equally impressive, reaching 384 pound-feet and available at lower RPMs, eradicating any hesitation or lag at lower boost levels. The engine’s prodigious power was channelled to the rear wheels through a G50 five-speed manual transmission and a ZF-sourced 40-percent locking differential, ensuring seamless and controllable power delivery.
To handle the Turbo S 3.6 “Package’s” immense power and agility, Porsche’s engineers equipped it with a suspension tuned by legendary racing engineer Roland Kussmaul. The standard 3.6 Turbo’s suspension, including 21- and 22-millimetre anti-roll bars, front and rear, coupled with Boge shocks and struts, provided the foundation for exceptional handling characteristics. Kussmaul further refined this setup by lowering the ride height by about an inch and a half, reducing the car’s centre of gravity and enhancing cornering prowess.

Visually, the Turbo S 3.6 “Package” was distinguished by its unique styling elements, further emphasising its exclusivity and performance credentials. Asymmetrical 959-style air intakes on both rear quarter-panels provided additional cooling for the engine and brakes, while a special front air splitter and a louvred rear wing that enclosed the intercooler enhanced aerodynamics and downforce. Four exhaust tips and 18-inch “Speedline for Porsche” modular light-alloy wheels, eight inches wide in front and 10-inches wide in the rear, shod with high-performance tires, completed the car’s striking appearance.
Whether adorned with the traditional 964 Turbo 3.6 body or the exclusive flachbau “slant nose” option, the Turbo S 3.6 “Package” delivered an unparalleled driving experience. Its sub-four-second 0–60 acceleration and 12-second standing quarter-mile times were testaments to its engineering prowess, while its exceptional handling and refined suspension ensured that drivers could fully exploit its capabilities on both road and track.

With its limited production run of just 39 examples, the 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S 3.6 “Package” remains a coveted collector’s item, revered by enthusiasts for its blend of raw power, refined handling, and exclusive design. It stands as a pinnacle of Porsche’s engineering excellence, a testament to the brand’s unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of performance and innovation.
