2009 Spyker C8 LM85
The Spyker C8 LM85 stands as a testament to the Dutch automaker Spyker’s commitment to blending racing heritage with road-legal luxury performance. Rooted in the design language of the Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2-R race car, the LM85 was developed as a limited-edition celebration of Spyker’s participation in the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. Produced from 2009 to 2012, this exclusive model captured the racing spirit while delivering a sophisticated driving experience.
At its core, the Spyker C8 LM85 is built on the robust aluminium space frame chassis that underpins the entire C8 range. Known for its lightweight yet strong construction, this chassis design is complemented by double-wishbone suspension systems at the front and rear, enhancing handling precision and road stability. The LM85, like its predecessors, exemplifies Spyker’s commitment to merging lightweight engineering with luxury craftsmanship.

Powering the LM85 is a 4.2-liter Audi V8 engine, capable of producing 400 PS (395 hp) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. This engine ensures the LM85’s performance matches its racing-derived aesthetics, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 4.5 seconds and achieving a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). This potent engine is mated to either a six-speed manual or an optional ZF automatic gearbox, providing flexibility for spirited driving on both the track and open roads.
The LM85 is instantly recognizable thanks to its striking Burnt Orange and Gun Metal livery inspired by Spyker’s GT2-R race cars. This bold two-tone colour scheme, along with the prominent Spyker “S” logo, makes the LM85 stand out from other C8 variants. Spyker’s attention to detail extends to every element of the vehicle’s exterior and interior design. The LM85 features specific details like a fixed rear spoiler for improved aerodynamics, bespoke LM85 exhaust tips, and black AP Racing brake callipers nestled behind distinctive 19-inch Aeroblade wheels finished in black.

Inside, the LM85 offers a refined blend of black leather and Alcantara upholstery, creating a driver-focused cockpit that exudes luxury and performance. Each of the limited units was meticulously handcrafted, emphasising Spyker’s dedication to bespoke customization. High-quality materials, a stylish dashboard layout, and Spyker’s signature exposed gear linkage add to the exclusivity and driver engagement.
Production of the Spyker C8 LM85 was intended to be limited to 24 units, paying homage to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, only 14 examples were ultimately produced, making this variant exceptionally rare and highly sought after by collectors. The LM85 symbolises Spyker’s ambition to merge racing technology with road car elegance, reflecting both the company’s heritage and its modern aspirations.

The Spyker C8 series, including the LM85, has captured the fascination of automotive enthusiasts around the world. The C8’s appearances in media, including television shows like Top Gear and movies such as Basic Instinct 2 and Fast & Furious 6, further solidified its status as a cultural icon. In addition to its film and television appearances, the C8 Laviolette LM85 has also been featured in racing video games like Forza Motorsport 3 and Forza Motorsport 4, offering fans a virtual taste of Spyker’s engineering prowess.
The Spyker C8 LM85 remains a standout in the niche of ultra-exclusive sports cars, combining a storied racing legacy with bespoke craftsmanship and exhilarating performance. For those fortunate enough to own one, it represents not just a car but a piece of automotive art and a chapter in Spyker’s unique history.
