About this collection

A technological turning point is not always the first appearance of an invention. More often, it is the moment a new idea becomes convincing enough to alter what follows. The mid-engined Lamborghini Miura, the performance-minded Alfa Romeo Giulietta T.I. and Ferrari’s plug-in-hybrid SF90 occupy very different parts of automotive history, but each made a changing set of possibilities visible to a wider audience. Their importance lies beyond novelty. They demonstrated new relationships between layout, performance and everyday use, helping move an emerging concept from experiment or specialist practice toward an expectation the rest of the industry would have to answer.
