About this collection

Every production car is a negotiation, but some begin with one objective that overwhelms nearly every other consideration. In this collection, manufacturers chased speed, response, lightness or technical distinction with unusual single-mindedness. The results range from the elaborate Pegaso Z-102 and the Saleen S7’s competition-derived escalation to Weissach-equipped Porsches, NISMO’s sharpened GT-R and Ferrari’s hybrid SF90. They are not necessarily perfect, nor are they free from marketing theatre. What connects them is the willingness to spend disproportionate effort, money and complexity pursuing gains that ordinary product planning would struggle to justify.
